Support & FAQ

Answers to common questions about PocketClip. Can’t find what you need? Email us and we’ll help.

Getting started

What does PocketClip do?

PocketClip makes a smaller copy of a video so it is easier to send and share. You choose a video, set a target size or adjust the settings, and PocketClip saves the result as a new video. Everything happens on your device.

Where can I get PocketClip?

PocketClip is not yet available in the App Store or on Google Play. It is being prepared for iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets. Once it is released, the store links will appear on the PocketClip page.

Which languages does the app support?

The app is in English. Automatic subtitles can recognise speech in many languages. Subtitles are not translated.

Do I need an account?

No. PocketClip has no sign-up and no account. To buy or restore PREMIUM, you only need the Apple or Google account you already use for the App Store or Google Play.

Free and PREMIUM

What is free?

Ordinary video compression is free and unlimited: target size, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and audio settings. There is no advertising, no watermark, no account and no subscription.

What does PREMIUM include?

PREMIUM is a one-time in-app purchase that stays unlocked. It adds:

  • Cut: trim the start and end, and remove one part from the middle.
  • Canvas exports: formats such as 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5, backgrounds, pictures, timed texts and subtitles.
  • Subtitles created on your device, burned into the video or saved as an SRT file.
  • Personal presets.
  • Alternative app icons.

The price is shown in the App Store or on Google Play before you buy.

Can I try PREMIUM features first?

Yes. Without PREMIUM you can open Cut, Canvas and Subtitles, make changes and watch the preview. You need PREMIUM to export a video with these edits, to save an SRT file, and to use presets or app icons. If you don’t want to buy, discard the edits and export the video for free.

How do I restore PREMIUM?

Open PocketClip, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases. You also find this option on the PREMIUM screen. Make sure your device is signed in to the same Apple or Google account you used to buy PREMIUM, and that it is online while restoring.

Restoring is useful after reinstalling the app or on a new device.

I switched between iPhone and Android. Does PREMIUM carry over?

No. Purchases in the App Store and on Google Play are separate. PREMIUM bought on an iPhone or iPad can be restored on Apple devices with the same Apple account, and PREMIUM bought on Google Play on Android devices with the same Google account.

How do I ask for a refund?

For purchases in the App Store, request a refund from Apple on Apple’s Report a Problem page. For purchases on Google Play, see Google Play’s refund policies or email us at support@jnsimedia.de. See also our terms of use & purchases.

Compressing videos

Why is the finished file not exactly my target size?

The target size is an estimate. PocketClip sets the bitrate for the size you chose, but how well a video compresses depends on its content: fast movement and fine detail need more data than calm scenes. After the export, PocketClip shows the real file size. If the file is still too large, export again with a smaller target.

Which codec should I choose?

H.264 is the safest choice when you are not sure where the video will be played. HEVC (H.265) and AV1 are newer codecs that often reach a similar quality at a smaller size, but not every app or device can play them.

Which codecs you can choose depends on your device’s encoders. AV1 is available on Android devices with a suitable encoder and is not available on iPhone and iPad. Options your device can’t use stay visible with a short explanation.

Does PocketClip work offline?

Yes. Compression, editing and automatic subtitles work without an internet connection. You only need a connection to buy or restore PREMIUM.

Does PocketClip change my original video?

No. PocketClip never changes or deletes the video you choose. Every export is a new MP4 file saved to your photo library.

Why do my HDR videos look different after export?

PocketClip keeps HDR only in some cases, for example HEVC exports without canvas edits. Otherwise HDR videos are converted to standard dynamic range (SDR), which can change how bright and colourful they look.

How much free storage do I need?

Enough for the new video plus temporary working files while it is being created. If your device is nearly full, free up some space before you export.

An export failed or stopped. What can I do?

  • Keep PocketClip open while it exports. On iPhone and iPad the system may limit how long an export continues in the background.
  • Check that there is enough free storage.
  • Try H.264, a lower resolution or a lower frame rate.
  • Close and reopen the app, then try again.

If it still fails, email us with the details listed under reporting a problem.

Privacy and your data

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Videos, pictures and subtitles are processed on your device. PocketClip has no server of its own and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking. The app only connects to the App Store or Google Play to buy or restore PREMIUM.

Which permissions does PocketClip ask for?

  • Photos (iPhone and iPad): to read the video or picture you choose and to save exported videos to your photo library.
  • Notifications (Android): to show the progress of a running export.
  • Storage (Android 12 and older): to read and save videos on these Android versions.

PocketClip does not use the camera, microphone, location or contacts. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my data?

There is no account to delete, and we hold no data about your use of the app. Everything PocketClip stores is on your device:

  • To remove the edits saved for a video, use Discard edits in the app. Presets can be deleted in the presets list.
  • Uninstalling PocketClip removes its settings, drafts, presets, purchase record and temporary files from the device. On Android you can also clear them under Settings › Apps › PocketClip › Storage › Clear storage.
  • Videos you exported to your photo library and SRT files you saved elsewhere stay there. Delete them there if you no longer want them.
  • Device backups, such as iCloud or an Android backup, may still contain a copy of the app’s data until they are replaced.

Getting help

How do I report a problem?

Email support@jnsimedia.de and include:

  • your device model, for example iPhone 15 or Pixel 8,
  • the operating system and version, for example iOS 26 or Android 15,
  • the PocketClip version (on iPhone and iPad under Settings › General › iPhone Storage or iPad Storage › PocketClip; on Android under Settings › Apps › PocketClip),
  • what you did, what you expected and what happened instead.

Please don’t send videos or other personal files. If a particular video causes the problem, describe it instead: length, resolution and where it came from.
