Summary
- PocketClip processes your videos, pictures and subtitles only on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- The app does not send us any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
- The only network connection the app makes is to the App Store or Google Play, to buy or restore PREMIUM.
- When you visit these web pages or email us, we process the data described under Visiting these web pages and Contacting us by email.
The PocketClip app
Videos and pictures you choose
When you select a video or picture, PocketClip reads it on your device to show it, edit it and export a new file. Compression, preview, cutting, canvas layouts and subtitles all run on your device. Automatic subtitles are created by a speech recognition model that is built into the app; the audio is not sent to any service. Your original is never changed.
To work with a video, PocketClip keeps temporary working copies in its own storage on your device, for example a copy of the imported video, the export in progress and the audio used for subtitles.
Exported files leave out the original’s location, recording date and device details. What is visible or audible in the video itself stays. Removing metadata does not make a video anonymous.
Data stored on your device
PocketClip keeps the following in the app’s own storage on your device:
- settings, such as the appearance you chose;
- a record of your last 50 exports, with numbers only (time, estimated and actual file size, duration, bitrates, codec and profile; no file names and no video content);
- your presets;
- drafts of your edits for up to 20 videos, including copies of pictures you added and the text of subtitles;
- the state of a running export;
- a record of your PREMIUM purchase: the product and transaction identifier reported by the store and when the purchase was last confirmed;
- temporary working files, as described above.
This data stays on your device. We have no access to it.
Saving and sharing exports
Finished videos are saved to your photo library (Photos on iPhone and iPad, the gallery on Android), and PocketClip opens the system share sheet so you can send them on. SRT subtitle files are handed to the share sheet, where you choose where to save them. Once saved or shared, these files are handled by your photo library, the app or the service you choose. If you use a cloud photo library, it may sync them according to its own settings.
Device backups
Depending on your device settings, the data PocketClip stores may be included in your device backups, for example an iCloud or computer backup of an iPhone or iPad, or an Android backup to your Google account. You control these backups through your device settings; they are provided by Apple or Google, not by us.
Deleting data
- To remove the edits saved for a video, use “Discard edits” in the app. Presets can be deleted in the presets list.
- Uninstalling PocketClip removes the data in its own storage from your device. On Android you can also clear it under Settings › Apps › PocketClip › Storage › Clear storage.
- Uninstalling does not remove videos or SRT files you have already saved to your photo library or elsewhere, and it does not remove copies in existing backups.
Permissions
On iPhone and iPad:
- Photos: to read the video or picture you choose, and to add exported videos to your photo library.
On Android:
- Notifications: to show the progress of a running export.
- Storage (Android 12 and older only): to read and save videos on these Android versions. On newer versions you choose videos through the system picker.
- Internet access and Google Play billing: only to buy and restore PREMIUM.
- Background work during an export (foreground service and keeping the device awake): so an export can finish. These do not give access to any of your data.
PocketClip does not use the camera, microphone, location or contacts.
Withdrawing permissions
You can withdraw a permission at any time in your device settings: on iPhone and iPad under Settings › Apps › PocketClip, on Android under Settings › Apps › PocketClip › Permissions. Withdrawing a permission can stop the features that need it, for example saving exports to your photo library or showing export progress in a notification.
No analytics, advertising or tracking
PocketClip contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software and has no server of its own. The app does not send your videos, pictures, subtitles, settings or usage data to us or to third parties.
Buying and restoring PREMIUM
PREMIUM is a one-time in-app purchase. Payment, the purchase itself and restoring are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own terms and privacy policies: Apple privacy policy, Google privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details.
To confirm or restore your purchase, the app on your device asks the store, and the store reports the purchase back to the app. Apple and Google make sales reports available to app publishers; the details these contain are determined by Apple and Google.
Visiting these web pages
These pages are hosted with Firebase Hosting (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). When you open a page, the server automatically processes the information your browser sends:
- IP address,
- date and time of the request,
- the page requested,
- browser type and version,
- operating system,
- referrer (the page you came from).
This is necessary to deliver the pages and to keep them secure and stable. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Standard access logs are typically kept for 30 days, security-related logs for up to 90 days.
Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Google’s certification), which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection (Art. 45 GDPR).
These pages set no cookies, use no analytics or tracking and load nothing from other servers. Fonts and images are served from this website.
Contacting us by email
If you email us, we process your email address, your message and any details you include, such as your device model, system version and app version, to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns the app or a purchase, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep your message as long as needed to handle your request, and longer only where the law requires us to.
Our email is hosted by Fastmail Pty Limited (ABN 31 142 646 580), Australia, which processes emails on our behalf. Transfers outside the EU are covered by Fastmail’s data protection agreement, which includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).
Please don’t send us videos or other personal files.
Sharing and service providers
- The PocketClip app does not share your data with anyone. It contains no third-party software that receives user data, and nothing leaves your device except the purchase check with the store.
- Apple and Google process purchases and restores as independent controllers under their own privacy policies (see Buying and restoring PREMIUM).
- For these web pages and for email we use service providers that process data only to provide their service to us: Google (Firebase Hosting) and Fastmail, as described above.
- We do not sell personal data and do not share it for advertising.
Security
- The app keeps its data in its own protected storage on your device. There it is covered by your device’s security, such as your passcode and storage encryption, and other apps can’t read it.
- PocketClip has no server of its own, so there is no PocketClip database holding your data.
- Purchase checks run through Apple’s and Google’s own store connections, which are encrypted.
- These web pages are served only over encrypted HTTPS connections.
Retention and deletion
- In the app: data stays on your device until you remove it. PocketClip keeps drafts for at most 20 videos and records of your last 50 exports, and removes older ones automatically. Temporary working files are kept in the app’s cache, which your device can clear. You can delete everything at any time, as described under Deleting data.
- Purchase record: stays on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its storage. The purchase itself stays with your Apple or Google account, so you can restore it.
- Web server logs: typically 30 days; security-related logs up to 90 days.
- Emails: as long as needed to handle your request, and longer only where the law requires us to keep them.
- Requesting deletion: to have your emails or any other data we hold about you deleted, write to privacy@jnsimedia.de. We delete it unless the law requires us to keep it.
Children
The PocketClip app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access your personal data (Art. 15),
- have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17),
- restrict its processing (Art. 18),
- receive it in a portable format (Art. 20),
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21).
Because the app does not send us personal data, we generally hold none about you from using it. Data on your device is under your control (see Deleting data). For anything about emails or these web pages, write to privacy@jnsimedia.de.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is: Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Postfach 3163, 65021 Wiesbaden, Germany.
